ABOUT ME
9V3A5344 (1).jpg

I have always been drawn to stories. Each person you meet has their own unique story-- ways that they have made meaning of their own reality. I find my own meaning by helping others explore their own stories, the meanings they create out of those stories, and the impacts those stories have on one's sense of self, community, and the world around them. My approach to social work is grounded in a pursuit of lifelong learning-- about myself, others, and communities-- as well as a desire to ask and guide others to do the same.

My work aligns with a social constructionist paradigm, adopting theories of practice such as narrative theory, standpoint theory, social learning theory, solution-focused theory, and some aspects of cognitive and behavior theories. This draws me to modalities that are informed by these theories, in particular: narrative therapy, the liberation-health model, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). These theories and modalities stress the importance and/or influence of concepts-- like meaning making, social interactions, cognitive processes, historical context, spirituality, etc.-- on how individuals relate with themselves, others, and the broader society.

Operating from this perspective in my work allows me to gain a better understanding of, and potentially elicit change at individual, cultural, and/or institutional levels. It empowers me-- and therefore my clients-- to move away from the dominant discourses that contribute to the perpetuation of oppression, marginalization, and/or racism in all arenas of social work (not just clinical work). In all, my practice is about showing up-- with authenticity, transparency, openness, vulnerability, humility, and honesty-- in sharing and receiving the stories of myself and others.

On a more personal note, I am a social worker living in Western Maine, where I fell in love with the area that I attended my undergraduate education in. I am creative, driven, and empathic. My passion is working with children, adolescents, and their families. I love being active, watching documentaries, learning new things, and spending time with family.
